When Gemma Walker was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa and bulimia aged 14, doctors warned she would die without treatment. The teen weighed a tiny 29kg (4.5 stone) forcing her devastated parents to consider palliative care. Gemma Walker tiene 22 años, sufrió de anorexia y alcanzó a pesar menos de 40 kilos y su cuerpo se le deformó de tal manera que a los 12, en una visita al médico, le dijeron que le quedaban sólo 48 horas de vida.

A los 14 le diagnosticaron anorexia nerviosa y bulimia, y su peso disminuyó de un modo impresionante. Durante los siete años siguientes, Gemma fue hospitalizada tres veces por distintas causas que debió afrontar. En la última internación, los médicos decidieron que comenzara con un tratamiento especial y lograron que de a poco fuera recuperando.

“Es muy duro verme en esas fotos, pero tuve la suerte de poder recuperarme y hoy puedo decir que tengo una vida normal”, comentó la chica luego de su tratamiento.
